The Curse of The Winter Solstice

The shorter days have certainly eaten into my ability to run up and down the hill. I have now been relegated to early shifts only, which means 7am starts and 3.30 finishes. This makes it hard to get up and down the course before it gets dark. It also means my ascents will be limited to weekends only. I have at least 5 more attempts before the race as I am in the final 6 weeks of the run in.

I am feeling a little bit better about things this blog. I finished the 3 hour multi-sport in just under three hours. I was hoping for under 2 hours 30 but when I came to the first run section and it was 2km up a goats trail, then someone said the second leg, which was a 10k mountain bike ride away, was twice as steep. I was thinking that getting it done in 3 hours was going to be an achievement. Well cross that off my list. It was fun, fun, fun and I want to do another one. But alas with the pyramid race creeping closer and closer my focus is firmly set on it.

I know I am not going to win this but I am looking forward to my sense of achievement and if I can give any inspiration out there that is a bonus. It is nice to hear that people are awestruck of my achievements in one year. However, the real sense of achievement is watching people actually get out there and do something too. I believe that I will have no problems finishing the race. I am now starting to gather ideas for next years goals. I think it is going to be hard to emulate this years feats. The aim now is to improve and maintain this level of fitness.

Before I announce my goals to the world I might just try and put this one behind me.
Who knows? I might still have it for next year too!

Other good things this week that have happened. I have now got my km times down to
5 minute 30. Previous to this week I had been residing about 6 minute k's. I also have the blue arrow which is about 7km hill hike down to 1 hour and 9 minutes. I am dying to get that down under an hour. I don't think I can run any faster down hill without causing myself a broken ankle or leg. I have to focus on the up hill section. Running up hills is shit. Sorry no other way to put that. I accept the challenge, because if you run up hills it gives you reason to boast, it also means that the times you do on the flat are far better, as I have found out.

I will be focusing on doing the hill every weekend until race day. God bless my poor wife. But she is going to hate what my goal is next year.

  1. Hey Frank good stuff again - at least the shortest day of the year is passed and the days are getting a few minutes longer each day! Well done getting your running times down so much again! Intrigued to see what your challenge for 2011 is!
